Man killed in Bexar County 18-wheeler crash

A man died in a when his pick-up truck collided with a tractor trailer in far southeast Bexar County near Elmendorf.
 
According to the Bexar County Sherriff's department, the pick-up truck hit an 18-wheeler hit a car at FM 327 and Loop 1604 just before 2:00 a.m. on Friday, July 16. The man in the pickup truck was driving in the opposite direction from the 18-wheeler when he steered into the oncoming lane and sideswiped the back of the trailer. The 18 wheeler was carrying a load of large pipes.
 
The driver of the passenger vehicle was killed at the scene. The driver of the tractor trailer sustained only non-life threatening injuries.
 
Police investigating the accident say the rural area may have contributed to the crash; they say it is a pretty desolate and very dark road. It is unclear whether the man had been wearing a seat belt or if either of the drivers had been drinnking. For now, the cause of the big rig crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed.
