If I Use My Own Insurance, Will My Rates Go Up?

Many people are afraid to use their own insurance to get their car fixed and get a rental because they do not want their rates to go up. There is no need to fear. If you did not cause the wreck, your insurance company cannot raise your rates just because you make a claim for benefits for your property damage, for a rental car, or for medical bills under a Personal Injury Protection or Medical Payments policy. Similarly, the company cannot raise your rates because you made an Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist insurance claim.

If you have full coverage insurance, you should use it. After all, you paid the insurance company your hard-earned money when it sent you bills for premiums. It is only fair for the insurance company to pay the benefits it promised when it sold you the policy. And don't worry. If your insurance company has to pay to get your car fixed, it will go after the other driver's insurance itself, and usually even get your deductible back for you.
