$500,000 settlement for parking lot collision

Our client was a truck driver. He was asleep in the sleeper cab of his 18 wheeler at a truck stop when another 18 wheeler ran into his truck. The force of the collision knocked him out of the bed and onto the floor. He was able to continue working, but he sustained an injury to one of the discs in his back. He had to undergo a surgical decompression of that disc. Our investigation showed that the trucking company should have fired the driver who caused the wreck before he crashed into our client. That driver had caused four other wrecks in less than one year. We settled the case in December 2008, after the federal judge ruled that we could present evidence of the other driver's record to the jury.

Attorneys' fees were $200,000.00, and litigation expenses totaled $39,988.99.  These expenses including expert witnesses in the areas of accident reconstruction, biomechanics, life care planning, medicine, and trucking safety.
