18 Wheeler Accidents

Sleepy truck drivers are a danger on South Texas highways

While only about six percent of traffic accidents involve semi-trucks, 18-wheeler accidents account for one-eighth of traffic accident deaths. Per mile travelled, the fatality rate for large trucks is almost twice that of all other vehicles.

A common reason why big rig accidents occur is drowsy driving. Truck drivers work long hours and may skip mandated breaks in order to meet deadlines. Ninety percent of drowsiness-related crashes involve a commercial truck.

A fully-loaded semi truck may weigh up to 80,000 pounds. A heavy truck with a drowsy driver is a disaster waiting to happen. It takes time to stop a heavy truck and a sudden swerve to regain control can cause the truck to jack-knife.

If you were injured or a loved one was killed in a San Antonio trucking accident that you suspect was caused by a drowsy driver, you may want to consider hiring a Brownsville 18-wheeler accident attorney. An attorney with experience in big rig accidents will be able to gather the information necessary to support your case. To learn more, contact The Cowen Law Group at 877-385-1282.

driver fatigue is such a major issue especially in Texas with NAFTA opening up commerce and trucking across borders. How can you avoid these drivers with so many on the road now?
