Holiday driving tips to keep you safe this season

Millions of Texans will be traveling this holiday weekend; most will be traveling by car. Thanksgiving weekend kicks off what is traditionally the most dangerous time of year on American highways, and Thanksgiving weekend is the most dangerous of all. The Thanksgiving Holiday ranks number one for alcohol related car accident fatalities.

The Cowen Law Group cares about your safety. Here are few tips to keep you safe while driving this holiday season.

Avoid distractions in your vehicle. If family members – especially children – are acting up or quarreling, try to stay focused. If possible, ask another adult to deal with the kids.
Check the forecast and plan ahead for bad weather.
If another driver is driving erratically or behaving less than courteously, try not to get upset. Reacting to a bad driver is a major contributing cause to road rage. Instead, hang back and try to put some distance between yourself and a potentially dangerous driver.
If they drive is along one, take breaks to relax and stretch your legs.
Take a break and get some coffee if you a tired. Avoid driving when fatigued.
Familiarize yourself with your route and pay attention to your surroundings.
Don’t drink and drive.

We hope this holiday weekend and the whole holiday season are both joyful and safe.
Happy Thanksgiving!
