Determining blame in multi-car Harlingen wreck may be tricky

Eight people were sent to the hospital after a multi-car crash outside the Harlingen Olive Garden just before 6pm on Sunday, February 7.

The accident occurred at West Lincoln Avenue and the frontage road of U.S. expressway 77/83. It brought cars at the busy intersection to a complete standstill.

Although there were many witnesses, the details of the wreck are unclear. The collision involved four to six cars. Paramedics took eight people to the hospital to be treated for injuries, but there is no word on their condition. Several vehicles were so damaged that they had to be towed.

Police are still unclear about the cause of the accident. There are reports of a distracted driver and a blown tire. The accident is currently under investigation.

When a car crash occurs, police officers investigate to determine what caused the accident. The police officers may issue citations for any law that is broken.

An insurance company will have a different way of determining fault. For example, if you were in an accident with a distracted driver, but you were not wearing a seatbelt, the insurance company may decline to award you damages for injuries they feel were caused because of the lack of seatbelt.
