Brownsville pedestrian killed in hit-and-run car DWI crash

Brownsville police have arrested a married couple in connection with a hit-and-run car crash death that occurred early in the morning on February 28, 2010.
 
Miguel Cabrera Jr., 22, and his wife, 20-year-old Sharon Wolfe of Brownsville were arrested for their roles in the death of Natalio Velasquez.
 
The 62-year-old victim was crossing the street in the 1800 block of Southmost Road around 4 a.m. when he was struck by a gold Chrysler 300.  The couple in the car left the scene.
 
A witness gave police a detailed description of the vehicle and the couple was found and arrested. Cabrera was charged with intoxication manslaughter and failure to stop and render aid. Wolfe was charged with tampering with physical evidence.
 
Police are awaiting blood test results.
 
It seems that every week I post about an alcohol-related traffic fatality in Brownsville, San Antonio, McAllen or Rio Grande City.  Indeed, the sad fact is Texas leads the nation in alcohol-related fatalities.
